What is the Zero Waste Movement?
The Zero Waste Movement aims to spread sustainable living and introduces alternatives to every day human needs that are less wasteful. It's all about embracing a circular economy; reusing, repurposing and keeping trash away from landfills simply by not creating it at all. This, however, is more about embracing the goal. It can be very overwhelming to try to produce no garbage, and in most cases impossible. But with the right resources, mindset, and determination, one can eliminate a large portion of their waste pretty easily.

What is The Purpose of Zero Waste?
The average American throws out 4.4 pounds of garbage per day. This waste goes straight to landfills, which have a huge and harmful impact on the environment. Landfills are problematic because not only do they unnecessarily take up large amounts of land, but also contaminate water and soil as well as emit harmful greenhouse gases which contribute to global warming. When waste doesn't go to landfill, it will often go to the ocean. Studies show that by 2050 there will be more plastic in our oceans than fish. Plastic pollution is an increasing problem and kills hundreds of thousands of sea creatures and birds annually. The zero-waste movement hopes to inspire others to minimize their waste and begin to positively impact the environment.
How do People Live a Zero Waste Lifestyle?
It's all about beginning with small life changes. There are many things you can do as an individual to begin your transition into a zero waste lifestyle, like refusing single-use plastics. You can begin by using a reusable water bottle, bringing your own reusable coffee cup, refusing plastic straws and composting food scraps. By doing these small things you can significantly reduce the amount of trash you produce on a regular basis.
